Erica Smyth AC

Non-Executive Chairman and Director, NERA

Erica Smyth has 45 years experience in the mineral and petroleum industries, initially as a minerals exploration geologist and later in project management, government approvals, corporate affairs, community interactions and for the last 15 years as a professional company director.

She is currently the Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Boards for the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environment Management Authority (NOPSEMA) and the Industry Advisory Board for the ARC Centre for Mine Site Restoration.

She also holds non-executive director roles at the National Energy Resources Australia Growth Centre (NERA), the MinEx CRC. In October 2019 she was appointed for one year as a panel member of the legislated 10 year review of the EPBC Act.

In 2008 UWA conferred on Erica a honourary Doctor of Letters and in 2010 she was named the inaugural recipient of the WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy Women in Resources’ life time achievement award. In the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Australian honours list she was recognised as a Companion of the Order of Australia. In June 2019 she was named as the 2019 Western Australian of the Year – Business.
